Here’s the plan:
June 30- July 5 2006
Day 1-
We’ll meet the group at the train station at about 3pm. You can get to Strasbourg
either from Paris or Frankfurt. We’ll get everyone checked into the hotel and take a
stroll in the beautiful cathedral quarter. You’ll get a feel for this superb city and it’s
rich history and culture. On to a fabulous Alsatian dinner with welcome aperitif. Once
you sample Alsatian cuisine, you’ll want to keep the recipes.
Hotel- Hotel Europe
Day 2-
Today the Tour de France action starts with the Prologue, and we’ll watch it all,
starting with the Sponsor’s Caravan and collecting some free goodies. A time trial
makes for excellent viewing, as one can clearly see all the riders, who go by at one
minute intervals. The prologue is only 7.5 km and the riders will be going all out to
determine who will be the first to wear the yellow jersey in 2006. After the stage
we’ll transfer to our next hotel, the lovely four star Hotel a la Cour D’Alsace in the
charming village of Obernai. Group dinner tonight.
Hotel a la Cour D’Alsace
Day 3-
We’ll be riding part of the Tour route today. Although the exact route has not yet been
announced, we expect to be able to ride directly from our hotel to view today’s stage.
We’ll find good spots for viewing and watch the riders and the rest of the festivities.
Back to our hotel in Obernai where there will be a bit of time to walk around visit one
of the prettiest villages in the Alsace. You are on your own for dinner tonight, so
choose one of the great local restaurants in Obernai.
Hotel a la Cour D’Alsace
Day 4- Today we will catch the Tour once again as the riders depart the Alsace
region. The exact Tour route hasn't been announced, but we expect to be able to
ride to a viewing spot from our hotel, or worst case would involve a short shuttle.
Before getting back to the hotel we'll find a cafe and watch the day's exciting finish on
TV while enjoying an adult beverage.
Hotel a la Cour D’Alsace
Day 5- Today we'll cycle to the beautifully
restored Chateau de Haut Koenigsbourg.
The restoration was done by the Germans
prior to WWI, and we'll take a tour of the
castle and learn it's fascinating history.
There are many hilltop chateaux in the
region which date from the middle ages,
but most are in ruins. This one is a treat.
We'll stop by a family winery on the way
back to the hotel and taste some of the
renown wines of Alsace.
Day 6- We’ll drop the group off at the
train station or airport in Strasbourg after
breakfast. Au revoir and bon voyage
for your trip home.
"Thanks for some great memories Walt"
